LaRuE Health Fair: Promoting Well-being and Community Engagement
Kicking off the event was the LaRuE Health Fair, presented by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe and Southern University Law Center. This engaging fair featured an array of vendors, including the Avoyelles Martial Arts Center, Marksville Chamber of Commerce, Avoyelles Community and Youth Coalition, and United Way of Cenla, among others. Attendees had the chance to interact with these organizations, fostering community engagement and promoting well-being. Notably, the Southern University Human Jukebox Band provided a lively atmosphere with their captivating performances throughout the fair.


































Chairman’s Welcome Reception: Networking and Camaraderie
Following the health fair, attendees had the opportunity to attend the Chairman’s Welcome Reception. This social gathering provided a platform for networking and building connections among panelists, speakers, and participants. With delicious food and an atmosphere of camaraderie, the reception set the stage for meaningful interactions and collaboration throughout the summit.



Day One: A Journey of Insightful Sessions
The summit’s first day commenced with a warm welcome breakfast featuring a keynote address by Russell Honore’, a retired Lt. Gen. in the United States Army. Honoring the lives lost during 9/11, Lt. Gen. Honore’ led a moment of silence, setting a poignant tone for the day. Over the next two days, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a series of nine sessions covering a diverse range of topics. These sessions included discussions on technology advancements, renewable energy initiatives, small business development, and building relationships with native tribal governments, among others. Esteemed speakers such as Donald Cravins Jr., Under Secretary of Minority Business Development Agency and US Department of Commerce, Louisiana Attorney General and candidate for LA Governor Jeff Landry, LA State Senator and candidate for LA Governor Sharon Hewitt, and Michelle Purl, CEO of United Way of Central Louisiana, provided valuable insights and perspectives.

























































































Empowerment and Collaboration: The Summit’s Impact
Day 2 of the LaRuE Summit provided attendees with a wealth of information, education, and networking opportunities just as Day 1. It served as a catalyst for collaboration and acted as a gateway to new prospects.















One standout moment was the chance to discuss empowering women in rural communities with Sharon Hewitt, highlighting the importance of providing them with the necessary tools to excel professionally and access better-paying jobs.

Additionally, the announcement of Marshall Pierite, Chairman of the Tunica Biloxi Tribe, running for the presidency of the NCAI was a momentous occasion, showcasing the leadership and participation of indigenous communities in broader national initiatives.

The LaRuE Summit was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved. From the insightful sessions and esteemed speakers to the valuable networking opportunities, the event fostered collaboration and empowered attendees to make a difference in their respective communities.
